Imbroglio in Thailand

In Politics, Thailand on May 18, 2010 at 10:11 am

Thailand, the tourist haven , has been caught in a turmoil since mid March 2010. Situation has taken a violent turn and is now  alarming to say the least. Red shirts, who are   supporters of ex prime minister Thaksin, are camping in city center Bangkok to demand ouster of PM Abhisit, dissolution of parliament and fresh elections.

PM Abhisit, with backing from majority of military, is in no mood to accede. Demand of Thaksin & protesters for UN intervention has been refuted by the government. Talks for negotiation have reportedly broken down and with declaration of emergency in25 provinces, now the stage is set for crushing the protests . Aged monarch Bhumibol is still a hope if he can use his moral authority as done in 1992 to resolve similar crisis.
