Visa denial to security forces personnel by Canada

In Canada, India, Politics on May 27, 2010 at 12:48 pm

Reports of visa denial to serving and retired Armed Forces, BSF & intelligence service personnel by Canadian High Commission are shocking to say the least. The reasons cited for denial are not only ridiculous, also cast aspersions on functioning & image of our disciplined security forces whose conduct & human rights record over a very long period in extremely difficult insurgency conditions  is par excellence.

The action of Canadian High Commission needs to be condemned very strongly and they must realise the gravity of aspersions cast on Indian security forces.

It will be  pertinent to highlight here  that credentials of security force members are considered beyond doubt while granting limited period visa by the foreign embassies & High Commissions.

Issue must be taken up at Govt level to demand apology and stop recurrence.

P.S. Canadian Govt has expressed deep regret on 28 May and Govt of India has accepted by saying that the matter is closed now.
